Following a competitive tendering process, VisionTrack has secured a contract to supply the refuse collection fleet of a major north London borough with 5-camera DVR systems.
Enfield Council’s fleet of 46 new bin lorries are to be fitted with the VT 5500 system, which comprises cameras at the front, rear and sides of each vehicle, plus one side-mounted camera to monitor the location of bins in the event of disputes with residents. At the heart of the system is a 5-channel mobile HD DVR with GPS and built-in 3G/4G for live viewing and remote management.
In addition to monitoring and recording surrounding traffic during journeys, the system will track the Council’s refuse vehicles in real-time, with live video and analytics enabling the fleet manager to manage risks and reduce operating costs. Each lorry will also be fitted with VisionTrack’s new cyclist detection system to help drivers be more aware of cyclists and other vulnerable road-users in blind spots. Drivers will also be able to use the rear cameras to assist with safe reversing, while the side cameras will come into play when turning left or right. Up to three months of data can be stored on the DVR.
Phil Morrell, Enterprise Realtionship Manager at VisionTrack said: “I believe that we won this contract by offering Enfield Council a one-stop shop for their requirement to have live, recorded video and telematics for their refuse vehicles. With safety and liability always an issue, managers at Enfield will now have the peace of mind and operational oversight that this technology provides.”
