VisionTrack Ducati riders move up to first and second in BSB Superbikes challenge

VisionTrack Ducati team-mates Josh Brookes and Christian Iddon secured first and second place standings in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship after a rain-affected weekend at Donnington Park. With heavy rain washing out the day’s action on Saturday, three races of the penultimate round of the Championship were held on Sunday, the first time this has happened in the history of the series. Grid positions were determined by free practice times from Friday, which put Brookes on pole position and Iddon on row two for the first race. Both riders made good starts and were immediately running in the top four on their factory-supported VisionTrack Ducati Panigale V4 Rs. A drying track eventually saw Iddon finish in second place and Brookes in third.
The track had completely dried out by race two, where Brookes worked his way to the front taking the lead on lap five, from where he controlled the race to take his 52nd career BSB victory, and with it the lead of the 2020 series for the first time. Iddon couldn’t match his previous race finish but battled to sixth place and second in the standings. The third race of the weekend saw Brookes lead for the first half, but eventually he had to settle for third with Iddon in fourth place, but both riders held on to their first and second positions in the Championship standings.
“First and second in the championship is all we could really ask for going into the final round of the season, so we are very much in the game,” said Johnny Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator. “Both riders have been consistent this weekend and scored good points in very difficult conditions at times. We’ll now go back to the workshop and prepare for Brands Hatch in the hope that we can emulate our 1-2 finish in the series of last year, which would be a remarkable achievement.”Pictures attached (courtesy of Double Red Photographic): Josh Brookes (podium) and Christian Iddon (21).
